What will class be like?
We have new students starting every week and new students are welcomed to RABJJ Academy in a fundamentals class that is designed to introduce you to Jiu-Jitsu and take you through your first few steps on the mats.
Due to COVID-19, we have implemented some extra protocols. We have marked squares on the mats which are over 6ft apart. And classes are being run at reduced capacity.
Classes follow the simple structure of a Calisthenics like a warm-up, a technical part of the class where the instructor is introducing technique/concepts, and students practicing the technique. We have now individual training buddies available for kids and adults.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Jiu Jitsu is a Martial Art, developed by the Gracie Family in Brazil. The Gracies learned Jiu Jitsu from a Japanese Diplomat and evolved it into a whole new art which rather than focusing on punching and kicking as a means to self-defense, the major strategy was to take attackers to the ground and pin them or apply joint locks or strangleholds to immobilize the opponent.
Gracie/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been adopted by all branches of the armed forces as well as federal and local law enforcement agencies. The Gracies were dedicated family men who exemplified a healthy life-style and were distinct examples of courage, discipline, determination and have become an inspiration to people all over the world.

How is Jiu Jitsu different than Karate and Traditional Martial Arts?
Unlike Karate and other Martial Arts, the basic strategy is not to punch and kick in order to hurt or render your opponent unconscious but rather to neutralize, control and immobilize the attacker.
Much like wrestling, the Jiu Jitsu fighter looks to take his opponents to the ground where he looks to outmaneuver and pin or immobilize.
-

Many parents seek our program because children are having problems with Bullying. Jiu Jitsu is extremely effective when it comes to Bullying not only because our students learn to defend themselves in a fight but the truth is the self-discipline and focus developed in training, allow kids/teens to carry themselves in a more confident and assertive manner.
Since our students learn to anticipate potentially dangerous situations, most times the battles with bullies don’t ever come to physical aggression.
