Words can’t express the emotions I felt today. I am forever grateful for the support I’ve received from this team. It is such an honor to receive my black belt from Professor Ricardo Almeida. Professor Almeida is a legend in this sport and yet still takes the time to focus on us all individually. You’ve taught me so many things both on and off of the mats which I am forever indebted. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today without the team you’ve built.
I can’t say enough about how much my two boys have grown in their youth program the past year. My 4 and 6-year-old have not only become physically stronger, but they also remind me how we can all be kind to each other. My older son has become more confident too, which I attribute to the class! Thank you
"I've been lucky enough to train under some of the best combat sports coaches in the world. Simply put, there is a reason Professor Ricardo is sought out across the globe - he's among the best jiu jitsu teachers on Earth and the rest of the staff is world-class. More important, though, is Professor's focus on the jiu jitsu way of life - being excellent, healthy and happy on and off the mats and getting there through BJJ.
Jiu Jitsu is a Martial Art, developed by the Gracie Family in Brazil. The Gracies learned Jiu Jitsu from a Japanese Diplomat and evolved it into a whole new art which rather than focusing on powerful throws, the major strategy is to take attackers to the ground and pin them or apply joint locks or strangle holds to immobilize the opponent. Gracie/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has ben adopted by all branches of the armed forces as well as federal and local law enforcement agencies. The Gracies were dedicated family man who exemplified a healthy life- style and were distinct examples of courage, discipline, determination, and have become an inspiration to people all over the world..
Unlike Karate and other Martial Arts, the basic strategy is not to hurt or render your opponent unconscious but rather to neutralize, control and immobilize the attacker. Much like wrestling, the Jiu Jitsu fighter looks to take his opponents to the ground where he looks to outmaneuver and pin or immobilize categories.
Yes, Jiu Jitsu is recommend for children with learning disability as well as ADD and ADHD. All children crave structure and consistency. Adults, too, thrive on ritual. Inclusive Professor Almeida's son, was diagnosed with Autism at age 5, and Jiu Jitsu helped him tremendously with motor skills, socialization, confidence and eventually become a college athlete.
Jiu Jitsu classes contain these elements of structure, consistency and ritual, training is very applicable to help bring an individual challenged by ADD/ADHD to develop greater organizational and executive functioning skills problems with Bullying.
No, you dot have to be in great to start but you will get in great shape when you start and stick to it. Our Basic Program Curriculum is designed to introduce a new student to Jiu Jitsu. A big part of the first few months of training is not only to learn the techniques but to develop the endurance to execute them over and over.
